G é Eleição Geral: presidente, governador, senador e deputados. L é Eleição Local (municipal): prefeito e vereador. De 1933 a 1990 o TSE não publica cargo municipal, então esses anos são todos G.

The same office appears twice in the year a place voted on a different date from the rest of the country (because of a postponement, for example).

In 1998, 513 federal deputies were elected in the 26 states and the Federal District, according to data from Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The largest caucuses were those of PFL (105), PSDB (99) and PMDB (83). In votes, the party with the most votes was PFL, with 10.9 million votes (19.01% of the votes cast for candidates). The most votes in the country for federal deputy went to Genoino (PT-SP), with 306,988 votes. In 1998, coalitions for deputy were formed in each state, so there was no national coalition; each candidate's coalition appears in the list by state.

513 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, split among 18 parties.

Coalition: until 2018 parties could join a single slate, and the quotient belonged to the coalition, not to each party. Seats went to the alliance and then to the candidates with the most votes within it. That is why a small party could elect someone by riding on the group's total. Use Group by coalition above to see who ran together. From 2020 on this ended in proportional elections; what exists today is the federation, which is permanent: parties that federate must stay together for at least 4 years, nationwide and during the term, not only for the election.

Elected seats, from the TSE results. This is the composition that came out of the ballot boxes, not the one the chamber had over the legislative term: anyone who switched parties after the election does not change this number. The count adds up those elected, without recalculating the quotient, so it matches the legal size of the chamber.

Each party by its total votes (candidate votes + party-list votes), including those that won no seat.

The most voted in each state, brought together only for reference. The seat is first allotted to the party (electoral quotient), and larger states have more voters, so the numbers cannot be compared directly.

The 10 with the most votes in the country. The percentage is of the valid votes in each one's state.

Registered voters: voters who could vote. Turnout: how many went to the polls. Abstentions: how many stayed away (registered voters − turnout). Blank and Null: those who turned out but did not choose a valid candidate. Valid: the votes that count for candidates (turnout − blank − null); percentages are calculated on them.

Choose a state above to see all candidates. Federal Deputy is elected by state: each state has its own race, and the national result is their sum.
