In 2016, there were municipal elections for mayor and city councillor, according to data from Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE). For mayor, 5,565 municipalities voted; counting both rounds, PMDB elected the most mayors (1,044), followed by PSDB (799) and PSD (538). For city councillor, 57,842 were elected; PMDB elected the most city councillors (7,554), followed by PSDB (5,357) and PP (4,740).
