Vote trend across elections
The votes of Getúlio Vargas in each election they ran in, from oldest to most recent. All on the same scale (the highest vote recorded); the color shows the office.
SenatorFederal Dep.
The longest bar (the one that goes all the way) is the highest vote recorded for any office, elected or not; it works as a ruler, and all the other bars are proportional to it (the longer the bar, the more votes). What shows whether the person was elected is the fill, not the length: filled (colored) bar = elected; only the dashed outline = not elected; "to the runoff" = went to the runoff. From oldest (top) to newest. Click a bar to see the result of that election. The campaign finance report of each candidacy is in the list below.

These offices and races are part of this person's political history, but they are not in the open data of Brazil's Superior Electoral Court: some because the TSE did not digitize the oldest elections, others because they were by indirect vote, appointment or succession, without a popular ballot. That is why they are not in the list above:
- State Deputy of Rio Grande do Sul (1909 to 1921). Direct elections with the limited vote of the Old Republic. Vargas was elected to the Assembly of Representatives of RS by the PRR in 1909, reelected in 1913 (when he resigned) and again in 1917 and 1921. Period before 1933, outside the TSE digitized database.
- Federal Deputy for Rio Grande do Sul (1922 and 1924). Direct elections. Elected Federal Deputy by the PRR (term from 1923 to 1926, reelected in 1924), heading the Rio Grande do Sul caucus. Before 1933, outside the TSE database.
- President of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (governor), 1927. Direct election with the limited vote of the Old Republic. Nominated by Borges de Medeiros for the PRR, he was elected and took office as head of the state government in January 1928. Before 1933.
- President of the Republic, 1934 (indirect election). It was not a direct popular vote. Vargas was elected president by the National Constituent Assembly in July 1934, for the 1934 to 1937 term.
- Provisional Government (1930) and Estado Novo (1937 to 1945). No election. Vargas took power after the 1930 rupture and, from November 1937 on, headed the Estado Novo, a regime established without an election.
- President of the Republic, 1950. Direct election. Vargas won for the PTB, ahead of Eduardo Gomes (UDN) and Cristiano Machado (PSD), and took office in January 1951. The 1950 election was not digitized by the TSE.
G é Eleição Geral: presidente, governador, senador e deputados. L é Eleição Local (municipal): prefeito e vereador. De 1933 a 1990 o TSE não publica cargo municipal, então esses anos são todos G.
A candidacy without votes is a registration that did not reach the ballot: according to the TSE data, a registration not approved, a withdrawal, or a running mate, who does not receive individual votes.
